More Joyous, a New Zealand-bred 4-year-old filly by US-based More Than Ready, won the 1600-meter Group 1 David Jones Toorak Handicap at Caulfield Oct. 9 for her 10th win in 13 starts, the last eight consecutively. The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly won the prestigious handicap under top weight of 58 kgs or about 128 lbs. from colts—something that would be unheard of here. It was the highest impost ever carried to victory in the race by a filly or mare. Next up for the filly, who is from a Sunday Silence mare and is therefore inbred 3×3 to Halo, is a clash with the Bart Cummings-trained So You Think—considered the best Down Under— in the 2040-meter Tatts Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Oct. 23. The Toorak video is below. More Joyous is in the blue silks and gets up late.
