Hersones, a Hennessy colt bred in Kentucky by Dutton Stables and R. Awtrey, won the Russian Group 1 Russian 2000 Guineas at Central Moscow Hippodrome yesterday. He was one of four US-breds in the race from five starters, and he completed the 1600 meters (metric mile) on sand in 1:43.3. Hersones was purchased at the Keeneland September yearling sale for $50,000 by German International Bloodstock Agency from the Taylor Made consignment. The price represents a significant rise from the $5,000 to $20,000 range usually preferred by Russian buyers, but it is in line with a rising trend based on the tremendous successes of US-bred horses purchased at Keeneland in recent years. I wrote about Russian buyers at Keeneland in Racing Post last year. Click here to read the article. Click here for the chart of the Russian 2000 Guineas.
