The finish of the Grade 1 Bloodstock SA Cape Guineas at Kenilworth Saturday in Cape Town, South Africa, was decided between sons of the best stallions in Britain and Ireland. The winner was South African-bred Noordhoek Flyer, a son of Pivotal, and the runner-up was Galileo’s Galaxy, an Australian-bred son of Galileo. The latter, at Coolmore, is arguably the best stallion in Ireland, where his main competition is Coolmore’s Montjeu. Pivotal, at Cheveley Park Stud, is the top sire in Britain, but Oasis Dream is giving him a run for the money.
Bred by Mary Slack’s Wilgerbosdrift, Noordhoek Flyer is out of the Kris mare Serra and is his sire’s first Grade 1 winner in South Africa and 15th overall. In 2009, Pivotal is the sire of English Oaks winner Sariska. Noordhoek Flyer now joins an illustrious group of winners of this race, including Empress Club, Jet Master, Horse Chestnut, and Jay Peg.
