Representing Venezuela, Bambera won the Internacional Clasico del Caribe at Hipdromo Camarero in Puerto Rico today after repelling the great Mexican filly Vivian Record in deep stretch. The Venezuelan super filly, who heads to Florida soon, completed the 1800 meters of the $300,000 race in 1:51.60 as the 7-5 favorite and became the fifth filly winner in the 42-year history of the race. Trained by Gustavo Delgado, who boldly predicted victory before the race, Bambera and Vivian Record staged a duel from the beginning. The Mexican filly broke from Bambera’s outside and hustled to the lead, with Bambera lapped on her. Just when it looked like Bambera was going to pull away from her on the backside, entering the final turn, Vivian Record found more and headed her opponent. They entered the straight as a pair, Bambera on the inside of Vivian Record, and continued the battle through the stretch until Bambera, under a left-handed whip, started to pull away. At the end, she was much the best, ahead by at least 3 or 4 lengths.
