Gary Tanaka’s Pressing won the Group 2 Topkapi Trophy at Veliefendi today for the second consecutive year after a prolonged stretch duel. Billed as Europe’s richest mile with a purse of US$1,020,000, the internationally recognized Group 2 over 1600 meters on turf is part of the two-day Istanbul International Racing Festival. Pressing won by a head from fellow European raider Dream Eater in 1:36.44 and earned $600,000. It was the 6-year-old son of Soviet Star’s third consecutive Group win this year, following scores in a Group 2 at San Siro in Italy two races back and a win in a Group 1 at Munich in Germany last out. The world traveller also has raced at Sha Tin in Hong Kong since his last win at Veliefendi in 2008. The Topkapi Trophy was recognized as an international Group 2 for the first time this year.
