Monitor this pedigree closely: Green Desert duplicated

  1. As someone who watched this race, I’ve got to say that MC did step up considerably from his previous forms, but he became a G2 winner by accident.

Alwaary, the second favorite, sweated up badly and lost this race before he entered the gate. I don’t know what the problem was with Harbinger, but the 13/8 favorite completely flattened out in the stretch and finished last.

Essentially, Monitor Closely beat Mastery and a couple of also-rans in this race, and Mastery’s previous forms (3rd in both the G3 Queen’s Vase and a not-too-strong G1 GP de Paris) were respectable, but not outstanding.

Monitor Closely has shown considerable improvement and another step up may make him a St. Leger candidate, but for the moment I would treat his G2-winner-status with caution.

  2. Thanks for that inside info….his connections probably know it, too, because they are not going for the St. Leger……what’s amazing is that he actually stayed 12 furlongs with significantly close inbreeding to a sprinter and speed influence.
