As far as I’m concerned, the greatest horse of all time was Forego, a gelded son of Argentine superstar Forli. He was big, fast, and stayed all day long. It’s fair to say they broke the mold after he was made. Consider this: He was the champion sprinter in 1974 but also won the 2-mile Jockey Club Gold Cup that year. (Forli won from 7 1/2 furlongs to 15 furlongs.)
Steve Haskin has blogged about him at The Blood-Horse. I suggest that if you haven’t read the post yet, head there, pronto! It brought back all the goose bumps for me. Click here to read it. Thanks, Steve.
