Last week, two horses from the outlying European countries — Greece and Spain — made impacts in black type races in Europe proper (as far as racing goes) — England and France. Ialysos, bred and raced in Greece, won a Listed race at Haydock Park on Saturday (see the coverage below in several posts), and on the same day the US-bred but Spanish-raced As de Trebol, a son of Tapit, “won” the Group 3 Prix du Palais-Royal at Longchamp but was disqualified to second for a riding infraction. Click here to read the account of the race from Byron Rogers from the Pedigree Consultants website. According to Byron’s post, there may be a better one than As de Trebol in Spain named Silverside, a US-bred son of Pleasantly Perfect who has already defeated As de Trebol at home. He will apparently race next in a French Group 3 and then head to the US for the Grade 1 Secretariat.
