The Coolmore consortium’s Kentucky Derby hopes did not materialize in Dunkirk, but the famed Irish stud has the Epsom Derby in its sights with undefeated Fame and Glory, who won the Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown yesterday. A 190,000 gns foal by home stallion Montjeu from Gryada, by Shirley Heights, Fame and Glory won the 10-furlong stakes by five lengths in 2:03.60. Winner of the 10-furlong Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud in France last November over heavy ground and the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown over the same trip April 19, Fame and Glory has now been installed as the 5-2 favorite for the English Classic next month. Coolmore also has a Galileo colt in the Derby mix in Age of Aquarius, who won the Group 3 Derby Trial Stakes over 11-plus furlongs at Lingfield yesterday. A 1.4 million euro yearling from Clara Bow, by Top Ville, Age of Aquarius won the Derby Trial from a neck from another Montjeu colt, and last fall he was fourth to Fame and Glory in the Group 1 Criterium de Sant-Cloud.
