Montjeu (Ire) is again the stallion of the week, for the week ended Sunday April 19. On April 19, Montjeu’s 3-year-old son Fame and Glory (GB) made a winning season debut in the G3 P.W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes over 10 furlongs at Leopardstown to remain undefeated in three starts and to stay on target as one of the main contenders for the Epsom Derby. Last fall the colt won the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud, and the Ballysax has served as a prep for recent Derby winners Galileo (Ire) and High Chaparral (Ire) — both from the same Aidan O’Brien yard. Montjeu already is the sire of two Epsom Derby winners from from only four crops of 3-year-olds, and so far he’s sired a classic winner from every crop (including Southern Hemisphere).
