You're absolutely right - Youmzain saves his best for Longchamp. The last two years he ran into two superstars that were too good for anyone.

Sea The Stars is now at the Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud in County Kildare, Ireland. I believe he is due to cover Zarkava after that mare visited the Aga Khan's other Arc winner Dalakhani earlier.

Completely agree with you on racing being full of "what ifs." Incidentally, Jacqueline was also ridden by the same jockey (Malesh Narredu) in the Derby Bangalore as Set Alight in the Indian Derby. Since then, the owners who are friends of mine, have decided to use, lets say jockeys of better caliber.

This coming Sunday should be an interesting day at Mumbai. The Montjeu filly Phenomenale runs an 1,800m Group 3 event and there is a Million race with some classy juveniles entered.

Rambus, i take your word for it. Even Hughes is apparently looking past the Oaks to the Derby. However, racing lore is filled with what ifs for better rides, and you don't need to look any farther than Set Alight's Derby. She should have won the Derby if the jock hadn't ridden her so confidently, making a premature move with too far to go. As you note, for Jacqueline in the Derby Bangalore, another what if . . . Set Alight eventually proved her superiority over the 2400 meters at G1 level in her last start. Jacqueline still needs to, and I hope she does.

In my opinion, Richard Hughes made heavy weather of this race; while making his move on the outside at the 400m, Suraj Narredu came right alongside and Hughes got checked. Jacqueline is so classy that she carried him through. He made heavy weather of his rides on Smart Chieftain as well several years ago. I believe Mick Channon felt this too and jocked him off Youmazain in the Arc last year when the horse finished second to Zarkava. Interestingly, that horse finished second in this year's Arc as well to Sea The Stars with Kieren Fallon on board.

I disagree on Jacqueline's staying prowess. She finished a flying second in the Derby Bangalore during the summer over a mile and a quarter. Had she been given a better ride, she may have won that event. Both Richard Hughes and I believe that she will get a mile and a quarter without a problem. Lets see how she tackles the mile and a half now. She is being targeted for the Indian Oaks next. Additionally, in the fillies she beat the stylish Astral Flash (by Belong to Me).
