Same Phipps imprimatur on Revolutionary and Super Saver

Revolutionary, WinStar’s Louisiana Derby winner, traces in tail-female to the same renowned ancestress of its 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver: La Troienne. WinStar bred Super Saver from a mare purchased from the Phipps stable but purchased Revolutionary as a two-year-old for $235,000 at the 2012 OBS March sale. Bred by WS Farish, the colt had been pinhooked from an $80,000 Keeneland September yearling. Note the huge influences of the Phippses in both pedigrees. The Phipps Stable, of course, is co-breeder and owner of Orb, who won the same day Revolutionary did in Louisiana.

Here’s the tail-female lineage of Super Saver first. The Phipps imprimatur is indelible.

Good post, Sid. And congratulations on using a word in the post title that only one in 127 Thoroughbred trainers will understand!

  2. Pattie from South Carolina says:

I would LOVE to see Orb win the Derby this year, which happens to be the 40th Anniversary of Secretariat’s Triple Crown Win. It would be fitting to see The Phipps family with Penny Chenery in the Winners Circle :)
