The A$10 million-purchased Starspangledbanner, an Australian-bred son of Aussie-bred Choisir, won the Group 1 Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot today with Johnny Murtagh aboard, just as his sire had done in 2003 with the same rider aboard. Choisir was the first Australian-trained winner in Britain, and he set a track record in the Golden Jubilee days after capturing the then-Group 2 King’s Stand over five furlongs at the same meet. His Ascot invasion paved the way for other Australian successes, though Starspangledbanner is now trained by Aidan O’Brien for the Coolmore group. Choisir is an Australian-sired son of Coolmore’s exceptional Danehill Dancer. The most recent Golden Jubilee video is below, and beneath that is video of Choisir’s history-making win in the same race.
